When we were talking about therapeutic relationships last class, most of it was a bit of a review for me. While getting my observation hours, I recall the therapist doing most or all of the things that we talked about that make up a great therapeutic relationship. She always had great eye contact and good body language, she was empathetic, used humor at appropriate times, was a great active listener, and overall was just there for her clients. I could really tell that she just enjoyed her job and wanted to see her clients improve, which is why every client she had, though some were a little more difficult to persuade into working, wanted to work with her and were very happy to have her as their OT. So having her as a guide and going over the main topics in class about therapeutic relationships, I think I am well equipped to help me be a better OT in that area one day.
